Local MP for Gordon, Richard Thomson, and local MSP for Aberdeenshire East, Gillian Martin, recently visited Rowlands’ new concept pharmacy on Market Street in Ellon. The pharmacy was chosen by Rowlands to be one of its flagship investments in new state-of-the-art service provision alongside traditional dispensing services.
Open six days a week, Rowlands Ellon provides local people with a broad range of services and professional advice to meet their needs and enables easy access to professional healthcare.
The pharmacy team is there to offer advice, treatment or referral to other healthcare teams where required. Specialist services will include access to an automated 24-hour prescription collection point – ‘PharmaSelf’ – giving customers added flexibility and convenience, allowing them to collect their prescriptions at a time that suits them. Flu and pneumococcal vaccinations are available as part of a wider service portfolio which provides customers with expert advice for treating minor ailments as part of the Pharmacy First scheme. The self-service SiSU Health Station is easy to use and offers a free Health Check; measuring BMI, Blood Pressure and Body Fat in less than five minutes. Users have access to a free online health dashboard where they can then track their progress and access free health improvement plans and programs online or receive healthy living advice from the pharmacy team if they’d prefer. Diane Bates, Rowlands local team leader, said: “It’s great to see Richard and Gillian take time out of their busy diaries to see how we are investing in improving healthcare in Ellon. Alongside GPs, community pharmacy is a critical part of ensuring people can easily access the healthcare advice and support they need. The team at Ellon are very proud to be leading the way in patient service innovation.” Local MP, Richard Thomson, said: “I am delighted that Rowlands has chosen Ellon to be one of its first flagshift pharmacies delivering services which will improve healthcare for local people. As the COVID pandemic proved, community pharmacy is at the beating heart of our national healthcare system. I would urge all local people to make full use of what this pharmacy can offer to improve their health and wellbeing.”Local MSP, Gillian Martin, added “The Scottish Government recognises the critical role of community pharmacy in improving the health of our nation. Our Pharmacy First programme is the envy of other parts of the UK. The Ellon pharmacy takes this one step further. We need to ensure people can easily access professional healthcare advice and support at the right time which suits them and lead healthier lives. Ellon is showcasing what community pharmacy can deliver and I thank the staff for their commitment to our community.”
