Alliance Healthcare UK has raised over £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a unique “Fantastic Four” challenge. Four team members from Alliance Healthcare UK have travelled over 1,000 miles, across four countries, to visit all 18 Alliance Healthcare sites, plus two special pharmacy customer pit-stop visits,in just under 40 hours. The team, known by colleagues as the “Fantastic Four”, had to take on special challenges at each site, voted by colleagues, throughout the journey, and draw a nationwide raffle for colleagues, to raise even more funds for the worthwhile cause.

The journey started at Belfast Service Centre, at 8am, on Wednesday 19 April, where the Fantastic Four had to drink a suspicious green smoothie, before travelling by car, and then ferry, across to Scotland. The team then travelled to Livingston Service Centre and had to dance the highland fling, to earn their tasty meal of haggis, neeps and tatties. Before heading to Newcastle, the team had a short visit to Alphega Pharmacy Barnton Pharmacy and Travel Clinic in Edinburgh, who kindly donated to the cause.

By midnight, the team was on schedule, and full of various regional food treats provided by colleagues along the way, as they continued their journey to Wales. At the Alliance Healthcare Swansea Service Centre, the team was challenged to complete ten minutes on the exercise equipment, to support the Swansea team’s own “24-hour exercise-athon”.

Tired, but still full of enthusiasm, at 9am on Thursday the team were welcomed by the Alliance Healthcare Support Centre team in Chessington and Managing Director, Julian Mount who said: “Helping support the fight against cancer is incredibly important to our business.

“Over the last five years we have raised over £700,000 for the European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer, and today we have an opportunity to help another great cancer charity. I could not be more proud of the generosity of our people”

Joining the Support Centre street party event in Chessington was Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for London, Julie Holland who spoke to the team about the work the charity support: “Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.”

“No one should have to face cancer alone and events like this help us be there for people cancer and their family when they need us most. We are very grateful for the support of Alliance Healthcare.”

The team then made a special visit to Day Lewis Pharmacy in Croydon, where they received a very generous donation of £2,000. After visiting the two London-based Service Centres,
the team then headed back north, and finally 36 hours and 38 minutes into the challenge the team made it to Leeds Service Centre.

At Leeds, a beaming member of the Fantastic Four team, Michael Fowler said “Wow, what an amazing experience to be part of. The support from everyone has been incredible, with generous donations from suppliers for our nationwide raffle, and customers, friends and colleagues across Alliance Healthcare. I’m so incredibly proud of bringing everyone together for such a fun and challenging event. But most importantly, we smashed our fundraising target to raise £10,000 for Macmillan, visiting 20 sites – all within the 40-hour time limit.”

It is still possible to donate to the cause, online at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Fantastic40challenge, or text: MCAH99 and the amount in £GBP at 70700.
